Question: What kind of wood did Noah use to build the Ark and with what material did Noah coat the Ark? How many stories high was the Ark?
Answer: (See Genesis 6:14-16) Noah used gopherwood (which might be cypress) and coated it with pitch. The ark was to be 30 cubits high. A cubit is a unit of length of a forearm from the elbow to the tip of the longest finger, generally about 18 inches. So the height of the ark should be about 45 feet. In modern times, buildings are about 10 feet per story, so the height of the ark would be a little more than 4 stories by today's standards. However, the ark was to be made with a "bottom, second and third decks." So the ark would actually have 3 levels (stories) per the account in Genesis.
